Discover the inspiring life of A.J. Brown — from his early life and family background to his NFL achievements with the Philadelphia Eagles. Learn about his journey, personal challenges, and football success.

Early Life and Family Background

Arthur Juan Brown, popularly known as A.J. Brown, was born on June 30, 1997, in Starkville, Mississippi. Raised in a tight-knit family, A.J. was deeply rooted in Christian values. His parents, Arthur and Josette Robertson, were his first pillars of support. Even though his parents separated during his teenage years, their influence on his discipline and character remained strong.

A.J. grew up alongside his two sisters, Shareda and Reva. He also maintained a very close bond with his brother who passed away in 2018, a loss that shaped his emotional strength. A proud member of the 16th Section Missionary Baptist Church, A.J.’s early life revolved around faith, sports, and family values.

High School and College Football Career

A.J. was a multi-talented athlete in high school, excelling in both baseball and football. At Starkville High School, he became a standout wide receiver, catching the attention of multiple colleges across the U.S. Interestingly, he was also drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 2016 MLB Draft, but he chose to follow his passion for football.

He committed to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), where his college football career took off. In 2016, he started making waves, but it was in the 2017 and 2018 seasons that he broke several school records. He became the first player in Ole Miss history to have back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. His performance earned him First-team All-SEC honors and solidified his NFL potential.

NFL Draft and Titans Era

In the 2019 NFL Draft, A.J. Brown was selected in the 2nd round (51st overall) by the Tennessee Titans. As a rookie, he made an immediate impact, recording over 1,000 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns. His explosive speed, physical style, and reliable hands made him one of the top rookie wide receivers in the league.

He continued to shine in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. In 2020, he racked up over 1,075 yards and 11 touchdowns. Despite battling injuries in 2021, he still managed 869 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns in just 13 games.

During his time with the Titans, Brown established himself as a top-tier wide receiver with incredible after-the-catch ability and clutch performance in key games.

Philadelphia Eagles and Career Growth

In April 2022, A.J. Brown was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles and signed a massive 4-year, $100 million contract. This move turned out to be career-defining.

In his first season (2022–23) with the Eagles, he posted a franchise-record 1,496 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, becoming the go-to target for quarterback Jalen Hurts. His chemistry with Hurts, both on and off the field, became a strong narrative throughout the season. Brown’s elite performance helped lead the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII, although they narrowly lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The following year, he continued his dominance and again crossed 1,400 receiving yards, maintaining his position as one of the NFL's most dangerous receivers.

Personal Life and Values

A.J. Brown is a family man and a strong advocate for mental health awareness. In 2022, he openly shared his struggle with depression and thoughts of self-harm, encouraging young athletes to prioritize mental well-being and seek help when needed. His honesty made him a role model beyond football.

Brown is married and has a daughter, Khamiyah. He shares glimpses of his personal life on social media, often highlighting his relationship with his daughter and close friendship with Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts — who is also the godfather of his child.

In early 2025, he showed his compassionate side when his vehicle was stolen. Instead of reacting with anger, Brown publicly asked the thief to return the car and offered forgiveness — a rare act of empathy in the world of pro sports.

He also made headlines when he personally visited a 10-year-old boy who saved his sister during a plane crash, fulfilling the boy’s wish to meet an Eagles player. Brown brought signed merchandise and the Super Bowl trophy, making the moment unforgettable for the young fan.

A.J. Brown’s Influence on and off the Field

A.J. Brown’s presence in the NFL is about more than just touchdowns and receiving yards. His leadership, honesty, and humility have made him one of the most respected players in the league. He continues to inspire not just with his game, but with his story, showing that success comes from hard work, strong values, and a compassionate heart.
